Our goal: full disclosure. We hope to teach you everything we know.
"Wow ... what a chapter! I love it on so many levels. It is the first time I've read about emotions and fundraising. Your approach is outstanding ... and your thinking equally so. You are brilliant in your simplicity. You've thought deeply about these things, and you've transformed complex thinking into plain language that all will understand." -- Tony Myers, University of Calgary, a peer reviewer for Keep Your Donors, the Ahern/Joyaux book on fundraising communications and relationships from AFP/Wiley
Overview
In my workshops and books, you'll find techniques, tips, and hard research culled from dozens of the world's top practitioners ... illustrated with real-life examples of great and not-so-great communications from charities and advocacy groups of all types and sizes.
Workshops can be -- in fact, typically are -- customized and personalized to your needs.
For instance, even though workshops all get the same basic training (eye motion studies, emotional triggers, and such applying anywhere on earth), The Centre on Philanthropy in Bermuda gets from me a very different take on things than a roomful of midwestern-U.S. environmental groups. Each has different problems; each will have its particular problems addressed.
I also prefer to include local communications in my workshops. It keeps me up to date on what charities are doing. And it gives workshop participants a low-stress chance (criticism is positive) to have their stuff expertly evaluated.
It's easy to add local flavor. The workshop sponsor -- say, an AFP or AHP chapter, or community foundation -- simply asks participants to send me stuff, physically or via PDF, a few weeks in advance.
Costs
Workshop rates vary, depending mostly on how long I am away from my desk, which is where I make my living as a writer and consultant.
My spot on the planet is in the eastern United States, in Rhode Island. Presenting a workshop in California (3,000 miles away) costs more than presenting one in Connecticut (one mile away). For California, I'll be gone several days; for Connecticut, a couple of hours.
